The 107% Rule (Article 35.1) ensures all cars on the grid are fast enough to compete safely. It prevents significantly slower cars from interfering with leaders during a race.
The Math: Any driver failing to set a lap within 107% of the fastest Q1 time is technically disqualified. In the 2026 season, managing new power unit energy modes makes this threshold more critical for backmarkers and newcomers like Audi and Cadillac.
Exceptions: The rule is waived if the session is declared "Wet." Stewards may also grant permission to race based on competitive pace shown in Free Practice (FP1-FP3).
